Under the direction of sound engineer Jochem Geene, they improvised for a full day. At the end of the day, Raaf Hekkema — saxophonist of the reed quintet Calefax and son of the legendary trumpeter Evert Hekkema — performed his own arrangement of his father's Simplex. That's how, four decades later, the foundation for this album came together, again in a single day. We chose to frame the 12 improvisations with two older recordings featuring Peter Massink. Intuition, the reunion is thus both a joyful reunion, a new introduction to Raaf, and above all a tribute to Peter — a great musician and friend from the very beginning.

Jonathan Impett trumpet
Maarten van der Valk drums & percussion
Bob Helsloot electric guitar & piano
Wilbert de Gooijer bass
Peter Massink tenor & soprano saxophone
Philip Baumgarten bass
Nico van der Linden Fender Rhodes
Raaf Hekkema saxophone
Leo Bouwmeester piano
Evert Woud bass

Pipes and Bells
Homage to Piet Kee

Six organists, a harmonium player, a carillonneur, a pan flute player, and the reed quintet Calefax perform works on this double album by one of the most important Dutch organists, composers, and teachers of the twentieth century.
